The Currumbin RSL, located on the beautiful Currumbin Creek on the Gold Coast, has long been a favourite meeting place for locals and visitors alike. Challenged with a low ceiling height and a forest of structural columns, the brief was to completely renovate the restaurant, lounge and bar spaces to create a better connection with the creek view, and make space feel lighter and more spacious. The main bar was relocated, a new commercial kitchen and cafe / servery installed and the flow of the space re-imagined whilst incorporating natural finishes and tones to connect with the clubs surrounding environment, and laid back vibe.

With limited external space available to the club, an indoor terrace was created along the full length facing the creek. bi-folding doors and frameless sash windows were used to open the interior spaces up, effectively creating an outdoor terrace within the existing internal space. Natural stone floors, softly toned timbers, white hues and creative lighting combine to lift the space vertically to give a sense of height to the space, whilst brass reflections and gloss wall tiles reflect light through the space diminishing the presence of columns. Cayas Architects were engaged to provide Architecture and Interior Design services for this project, and are also working on Stage Two of the refurbishment.
